Monday 22/11/10...
In the morning we had to present our work from the last project and talk to each other about our work and how we can imporve and what everything thinks of it , once our tutorial was over we were given the next brief project which is multiples. Below is a link to the project brief for this project.
When I first sat down and thought about this projct I couldn't think of many ideas. I didn't know which direction to take or what I should photograph. I knew I wanted to use my sewing skills within my final piece to incorporate it in to costume design.

Today we did a workshop with Kate on pinholes. We had to bring a pinhole in and spend the day taking images with our lenseless cameras. I decided I wanted to keep my pictures looking quite old fashioned , and just outside of the dark room there are some iron bars which look quite old , behind the bars is the college building on Greek Street which has some interesting architecture. I left my camera wedged on a wall so it was safe from falling.
Once I had gotten all the timing right , ( which was 3 minutes ) my pictures began to develop. I decided to keep looking at different angles of the same place to see what would look best. Once I had finished for the day I had a collecton of pinhole images which looked interesting and delicate.
I looked at ways in which I could distort my pinholes , some of the least successful ones I decided to burn, I liked the way the photographed bubbled and created an fragile image in its own right.
Above is one of my pinholes which hasn't been edited. I used a small box as my pinhole camera and so the picture is only very small.I like the feel of this image, it looks like an old victorian photograph the way it is framed. After seeing this picture I began to look at victorian photographs.
Once I had got some pinhole images I decided to start inverting them so they looked like realy photographs.
Below is one of my pinholes inverted, as you can see there are some striking similarities when comparing this photograph to the Victorian one.
I am quite happy with this pinhole as a final image , however, I would like to experiment with using different medias on top of this photograph to see what effects it can create.

Today with Rob we did a workshop about lighting. We learnt about how to use lighting and how different lighting can change a photograph. We also looked at ways of changing the light , by using filters to create softer lighting.
I decided to take photographs using this technique of two badges I own. I decided to use both these badges as they are tiny and looked good close up.
Below is an image of my badges
This is with using lighting , I wanted the viewers eyes to be drawn to the center of the image and then realise about the light , however , I don't think it stood out enough so I carried on editing it in photoshop , I looked at using different filters and then found cross processing. Cross processing was orginally used in film photography were two different chemicals were added together to give a different look once the photographs were printed. However there is also a filter for the same effect on photoshop. Below is the image with the cross processing on it .
